My son (12 years old) has just been diagnosed with ADD and has been prescribed Dexedrine. We are leery of him taking anything at all and are wondering what experience other people have had with this medication.

Dexidrine is used to treat ADHD, and is a rather safe med. I would go ahead and try it, with this in mind, Not all meds work for everyone. Side effects are the same as any other stimulant, appetite issues, sleeplessness, etc. I look at it like this, Would you deny him glasses if he needed them? Denying him meds is not allowing him to learn and grow socially to his full potential
