I saw a story in Time the other day that says new reseach is showing that abortion is less risky than childbirth:

Personally, I don't think the two can be compared- of course abortion is going to come up as less risky! Pregnancy takes nine months and therefore there's more time/chance for complications to occur versus a one day abortion procedure.

If you READ the article, it says in the title it's comparing it to childbirth, not the whole pregnancy.
