I'm trying to adopt a child here.  He is older child though.  although i don't think he really knows how old he is.   Long story here.  He was not in an orphanage or anything but on the street trying to get money to survive and money to go to school.

Oh yes, here is Tamale, Ghana.

Hi Linda -

Are you in Ghana as well?

We do have some people who have adopted internationally on this board and even some from African countries.  I'm sure if you have specific questions they'll be happy to help answer them.

Not knowing anything else the only recommendation I could give would be to talk with an agency that handles international adoptions, one of the big ones might at least be able to give you resoures and point you in the right direction.

Welcome and best wishes!

Hi Linda, Great to see you here! I hope you're having a wonderful trip to Ghana!

It's my understanding that you would need to go through an agency on the US side in order to bring him into the country. Some friends of mine are in a similar situation where they would like to adopt an older teen who they met while in Sierra Leone adopting their other children. I think they are now trying to get him into the US on a student visa instead of through adoption. Then once he becomes a US citizen he could be adopted. Honestly I'm not all that clear on how that works!

If you google "adoption agency ghana" you'll come up with some US agencies who are approved through the Central Adoption Authority in Ghana. They would be a good resource to find out about all of the requirements.
