PLEASE THINK BEFORE YOU NAME!!!

hello all!! i just want to vent a lil here-please everyone think before you name. and think when you spell the name. if you choose a unique spelling of a common name-it really doesnt change the name. you can spell emily like this or emmalee or emalie or emileigh-its still emily-it doesnt make it any different. my major thing is adding y's instead of i's and z's instead of s...i wrote on a cake last night for an izabella...and my oldest dd goes to school with an yzabella roze. i also have a niece and nephew-kayleigh and kryztian(christian). theyre siblings...they have a baby brother named ayden-which isnt too bad-its better than poor kryztian!! when they sent me a pic after he was born and put his name on there-i actually had to ask them how to pronounce it.
another pet peeve of mine is this whole backward trend-i despise the names neaveh and semaj. if you want to name your child after a family member (like james) and you cant use the actual name cuz its a boys name and your child is a girl-why dont you use a varient of the name? james can be jaimie...or jamison...jaimelee...something. robert can be roberta...or robin...or rowan. although i havent seen this name backward yet-i figure give it time...
last, make sure the name will grow well with the child. gage and owen are great lil boy names but i cant see it on an adult. destiny and kayley are great lil girl names, but i cant see it growing up well.
everyones choice is their perogative and you can choose whatever you want for your child-but remember they have to go through life with this name..and take it from someone who had a long hard to pronounce last name...it gets annoying to have to constantly tell people how to pronounce it-i can imagine how it would be if it was my first name...

I do see your point on the spellings. I am not a fan of the Kr8tiv spellings at all. It doesn't change the name, just makes it harder to spell for other people.
Two things, though.. there are some names where there are a few different forms of the name. One may think one version is the only way to go, whereas another thinks the other form is the only acceptable way to spell it. Take my dd's name, I chose to spell it Haley, because I wanted to avoid the *Hay* that is in it. I also didn't want it pronounced Hail-lee, so I wanted to avoid the spelling Hailey. Yet, all three spellings of Haley, Hayley, and Hailey are perfectly acceptable,IMO.
I am sure the name I chose 25 years ago for my son would not fit your standars for naming. His name Is Jory... sounds like Cory. It gets misspelled and mispronounced all the time. He is used to that, doesn't mind it at all, he just tells people his name and adds *Jory, like Cory but wit a J*. In fact, he takes pride in having a different name, because it fits his personality. Yet, his name has not stopped him from holding a good job as an engineer, do well in school and college, or have lots of friends.
I guess it boils down to a matter of opinion. For instance, I could NOT EVER imagine having a common name, I was an April in a sea of Susans, Jennifers, Christines and Karens. I always had to tell people my name was April, like the month, not many used the name then, Now, I don't have to do that because more people are used it it as a first name.
Different strokes for different folks, we can't all agree on everything. :smileysurprised:)

hello!! yep-youve got a point about different strokes and different folks...my parents absolutely hated the name i chose for my oldest-violet-until i gave birth and then there was no other name for her:smileywink:. i do like the name you gave your son-jory. (i like alex and haley too) i read a book where there was a character named jory. i liked it then and i like it on a "real life" person. i didnt really have a common name growing up either-i was a joanne in a sea of jennifers, nicoles and courtneys. my oldest dd is the only violet she has run across in the last 7 years shes been at school. she does have 4 emmas in her class...and 3 alyssas...now my 2nd dd-isabelle-shes run across a few in her 4 years of school already but the more common name is isabella... the kr8tivv spellings are a major pet peeve to me...i think we can agree on that.
you know those-these kr8tivv spellings have to go-my sister in law got a membership to our local zoo-she had to list her kids names-russell, natalie, kevin and owen. nothing crazy, nothing over the top. until she got the card-russell, natalie, kAvin, and owen. she told the woman his name was kevin-its the normal way to spell it..nothing kr8tivv.  but because there is a bunch of creative spelling out there, she thought his name was spelled different...
take care!!!

You are right, my oldest son's name came from a book... in the Flowers In The Attic Series by VC Andrews. I read it when I was in Jr High, and always thought Jory would make such a cool name! He was the hero in the book, the strong, handsome one compared to his twin. Funny that you knew where it came from!

LOL!! you know i have seen you on these boards for awhile and i always wanted to ask you if your sons name was from that series. i have read that series 3 times-my mom is a huge vc andrews fan. it IS a cool name-and unique is good. i think its the off color spellings that drive me nuts. theres no question on how to pronounce his name...
