Do you ever look around and feel that only stupid people are having babies?!

I am just disgusted by the way life is treated so casually like it's no big deal to have lots of kids and no plans to be able to

support them. Case in point my younger brother - When my nephew was born last year he and his girlfriend at the time had

literally waited to the last minute to prepare for the care of the baby. They bring him home and have no crib to put him in,

no stroller, bassinett, changing table...and are out taking a new born to wal mart to see if they can get these things! They had a baby shower but apparently didn't want to buty this stuff if they wouldn't get it for free.......anyhow, he's married to her

now, did I mention she had 4 children already by two different baby daddies?! Yeah. And here's my brother sole provider to

them all due to her never graduating high school and never holding a real job because she didn't want to and was too busy

having babies apparently. ANYHOW. This Christmas I'm listening to my brother bemoan his life and the situation he's in

when he reveals she's pregnant...again. I wanted to slap my brother because it's so frustrating for me to watch him do these careless things when I damn well know he was raised to know better. I had to ask plainly if they used ANY birth control since he mentioned last year they both didn't want another child after that. (Her pregancy with my nephew was really rough she spent the last two months in the hospital and he was born prematurely) My brother claims she won't use the pill,

shot, patch etc. because she doesn't like the side effects. She refuses the idea of condoms because she says if they use condoms my brother will cheat on her! HUH?! You'd think  she'd want him to be protected if he cheated but there is no way

I will ever understand her thinking. So yeah, my brother claims he's having a vasectomy since she talked big about getting her tubes tied after having my nephew but apparently wasn't serious.

What astounds me the most I guess is here they are both claiming to not want any more children- lord knows they can't support anymore right now on their own, rather on my brother alone-but even though they both say that they won't do anything to prevent it!

So yeah, after that delightful story I dared any of my family to ask me again why I won't have kids. Maybe since I live in the south it's expected even more but when I see examples like my brother and his wife on a daily basis, even if I had wanted kids it just makes it so unappealing.

i surely do understand where you are coming from..it sure dont make any sense.when the side effects of not using BC is another mouth to feed..real sad and lacking any common sense..them poor babies.

its just so unbelievable that BC is so easy to use and affordable..much more than a baby, but ppl refuse to use BC

it is frustrating that the world is full of ppl who think the same way.

not much we can do about it either...

DH and I have been married 15+ years and have never had a single pregnancy scare. I'm on the pill and he's had a vascetomy so we're pretty well covered.

I don't get people who refuse to see that their choices are affecting their lives and, more importantly, the lives of their children!

It makes me feel like they view human life to be of no consequence. *sigh* Thanks for the reply, just had to vent about it somewhere.

I've known people who don't do too much to prevent having children, either. It's mind-boggling and sad.

However, I also know a lot of people who are super-intelligent and way over-prepared when the children arrive. Luckily, I know more of this kind of parent than the former. I doubt that's reflective of the whole populuation.
