Wow.  I know some judges have creative ways of punishing people for bad behavior, but do you think this goes a bit too far and violates his freedom of speech?  Or was he in violation of a restraining order by posting a rant against his ex?

http://communitypress.cincinnati.com/article/AB/20120221/NEWS/302210147/Judge-Jail-Facebook-rant

According to the article, his ex wife has a protective order against him which prevents him from causing her “to suffer physical and/or mental abuse, harassment, annoyance, or bodily injury.”  He posted the following rant on his wall (which he had used privacy controls to prevent her from seeing):

“...if you are an evil, vindictive woman who wants to ruin your husbands life and take your son’s father away from him completely – all you need to do is say that you're scared of your husband or domestic partner...”

She saw it anyway and reported the rant to the court.  He was found in contempt of court, ordered jailed for 60 days AND he is to post for 30 days on his FB wall an apology written by the magistrate.

What do you think?

Yeah, I don't know. I guess if it was in violation of the restraining order. But I don't get how people don't REALIZE - if you put something online, it's potentially there for the world to see. I don't care what your privacy settings are. So, his bad for being dumb about it, I say.

Cyberspace 101:  Don't ever put anything into cyberspace which you don't want the whole world to see.

Facebook is only a private as your 'friends' choose to make it.   All it takes is for one friend to leak what he's said and he's in trouble.      I have no sympathy for him.

And given how he wrote his missive and the restraining orders she has, I suspect that he got what he deserves.   I can't help but suspect that he's been abusive to her and is now playing the victim because she's standing up to him.

See here is the problem and the problem frankly that I have with venues like facebook. People tend to post EVERYTHING on them and I get that while this may appeal to teenagers it seems like trouble to me. I would think it would be a much healthier and better thing to go talk to a friend or a therapist but things like this are better dealt with PRIVATELY.

Where else but facebook do we find it acceptable tp post pictures and comments that we would not show anyone in person? Or say to anyone's face? I feel that people use facebook to tell the world their problems and to air out their dirty passive aggressive laundry. I miss the days when we had to face our problems with the people we actually had a real problem with and resolve it.

Here is the moral to this and every other story like it,facebook is not the place to resolve issues or discuss emotions.
