How did you meet your SO?

We were both in the Air Force stationed in Japan.  It was a big base and the dorms where we lived was on the opposite side of the base from the hanger that we worked in so we had a shop truck to take us to work.

His additional duty was to drive that shop truck so he always had to get there before everyone else to do the inspection.  It was my first day of work so I wanted to make sure that I was not late so of course got there way early.  We had about 15 minutes by ourselves before anyone else showed up.  He flirted with me a bit, but in my nervousness I did not read it as flirting and just thought he was rude.  For the next couple of weeks we pretty much only saw each other on the truck ride to and from work (even though we worked in the same shop we did not work together).

Then Memorial weekend our squadron had a picnic.  We hooked up together there and with the exception of one small break-up (totallly my fault) have been together every since.  Will be 32 years Memorial Weekend.

I lived in a house with 3 other roommates and one of them was leaving, so I was posting a "room for rent" sign on a bulletin board in front of a health food store. Dh was there looking at signs for rooms for rent and so we met. I told him a little about the room/household situation and he was interested, so I invited him to have dinner at the house with the roommates. We all liked him so he moved in and I got to know him.

My nerdy response - I was lamenting at lunch to a work gf and a PhD guy (who is about 15 years older) who was eating with us, about my boyfriend situation - I was dating one guy but it was going nowhere and was a rebound from a boyfriend who I was head over heels over, but he ended up being a jerk. PhD guy said he had a friend but really wanted him to meet his ladyfriend's (he was in the middle of a divorce but had met someone) daughter (but she was in Wisconsin and we were in St Louis!). So he just said, "Give me your resume." So I did. And he got me dh's. The 3 of us met for lunch a while later and I found dh into polyester and a bit nerdy (in May '88), but ok. DH called me later that night and we talked for over an hour - now note dh, PhD friend and I are all from the Chicago area but all met here in St Louis - so we talked about stuff growing up, etc. Then he asked me out and we went out for ice cream that weekend - and we talked, and talked and talked for days to come, friends at first, him saying he wanted an exclusive relationship (which sounded so much better than the guy who I was head over heels about since he two timed me and broke my heart). So we got close, and by July '88 were engaged, and married Nov '88. Weird but true.

I met my DH when I was 19, almost 20. My sister & I had been out for pizza in the neighborhood, & were standing on a corner, waiting for a bus. He and a buddy were out crusin, in his Nova SS, when he saw us. He cracked a U, cut off the bus and said "Hey Baby!! Wanna ride??" My sister almost died, but I said "GREAT". Sis got the back seat with the buddy, I got the front seat, with DH. HE said he'd call me the next day, and he did. And we've talked EVERY SINGLE DAY since then, no matter how late, or far apart we've been. It'll be 40 years, beginning of May.

I was invited to a birthday party of a girl I sat next to in English class in university.  This was my second year university and the party was on a weekend in March.  I didn't know this girl really well, and I knew absolutely no one at the party.  Ray walked in to the rec room where the party was held and I thought "cute" - then I thought , "Aw, he probably has a girlfriend already".  Anyway I had my eye on a couple of guys there who were real funny guys.  But I talked with Ray for a bit, danced with him too for a bit and that was that.  (Ray was pretty shy and oh yes, somehow I found out that he didn't have a girlfriend).

The next Monday I had to decide whether I wanted to go and hang out at the tables in the cafeteria where these group of friends from the party eat lunch and sit around at between classes.  I was nervous as I still hardly knew anyone there, but I screwed up my courage and went over to who was there and said hi.  Those two funny guys I was first attracted to were at the table as were other people from the party (but not Ray) but those two guys showed no interest in me...just wanted to play cards with each other!  Then Ray arrived not so long after and I said hi and we began talking.  Well, it was so easy to talk with him.  And so every day after at university, I hung out at that table of friends, and got to know Ray more and more and we became a couple.
