Time for Change

We found out that our office area is being moved out of state, which leaves each of us with a decision to go or not go.  My decision has been made, I am the lower paid of DH and I and his recent promotion, along with raises the past few years makes his job much more secure.  My parents are also having a lot of health issues, so I have to stay in the area.

Like Bex, this position was sucking the life out of me as the company had already cut a lot of positions, leaving those left with a heavy workload.  I had already started to look for something new, so in one sense this is a great opportunity to really look for something I want to do the rest of my career (as I turn 50 this year.)

I am considering a couple options including financial planning and marketing consulting.  I just want something I can put my heart and soul into.  Due to DH's job, I don't need medical benefits, but still need a decent salary.

I could use a little time to declutter the house as well.

Just a lot to think about and any advice any would have for this time, would be greatly appreciated.

I am glad you are looking at it as an opportunity. That is the only way to go in this situation.

I think you should just get another job. If you go freelance you could not do it half way(I Know you!) and would end up working crazy hours to get it started ect.

Find something close to your gym with minimal commute time, that you could possibly work 1 day a week from home!

Good luck, I hope you find something you really enjoy.

Thanks, Karen. This job was supposed to tide me over when I moved in with DH four years ago, and it did just that. I agreed with DH on a plan to start looking for something this spring anyway, so this just makes that plan more of a reality.
I just want to really do something I love and don't want to worry about the number of 0s and commas in the paycheck line as I truly believe if you do what you love, the financial rewards will come.
Weird place, but a huge opportunity as well.!

This is one of those awkward moments.  Do I say congratulations or I'm so sorry?  I'm sort of leaning toward the first.  Sometimes life just gets to busy for all of us.  With my DH out on the road again, I'm feeling lonely, overworked with office job, farm chores and life in general (kids are having a hard time financially & I can't do a whole lot to help).

So my advise (take it or leave it, LOL).  Stop and smell the roses.  We can all reflect on Bex's workload and how stressed she is.  And look at poor MaryAnn, alone with a son that we hope is doing the best for his mom.   Life is too short Marie.  Your elderly parents need you and you need peace of mind for yourself.

Good luck and I hope the perfect job, with less stress and travel falls in your lap!

Hi Marie-

Wow...I really hope they provide you with an excellent severance package and outplacement vocational counselling.

Im really glad that you can depend on your hubby for a bit.  I agree with Norma about spending time with your folks.  Have you figured out what you need to earn to meet your goals?

Do you have specific questions that you would like us to consider?

Duke
