School Aged Children Born Prematurely Now Struggling

Hello to all.

I am so shocked to find after extensive research that there are very few websites, blogs, or discussions for parents of children who were born prematurely.

To be honest, I have been in denial for years that my child is behind all the others. I have this image in my mind of my child...perfect and every milestone is complete an awesome on. However, now that my daughter is 10 years old, in the 4th grade, and lagging behind all her classmates, I am scared to death. She is learning at a 1st grade level and struggles with her memory.

Anyhow, I was wondering if there are other parents out there that are having the same issues with their child who was born early.

Thank you for reading!

Welcome to the board!

I'm sorry that your daughter is struggling in school , is she getting any help or services? It's so hard to see watch them fall behind their peers, and to see them struggle.  All you want to to is scoop them up and protect them.  How premature was she?  I was curious if she been diagnosed with any learning disabilities.

No matter how she is doing, she is still perfect to you and that's all that matters :smileyhappy:  I look forward to getting to know you better, please keep us posted on her progress.
