My sweet baby is here!

Here's a late update... Life is even busier than it was before!! =)

I was scheduled to be induced 2/6/12 and we arrived at the hospital at 8 am. After what seemed like endless paperwork, the nurse started my strep b antibiotics at about 9 am. She also checked my cervix, which was at 5 cms. (The reason I was induced was to be sure to get the strep b antibiotics. Labor with my ODS was quick, and on Friday I was already at 4 cms.)

At about 11:30am the nurse started low dose pitocin and increased the dosage every half an hour. At about 2 pm I was starting to feel more painful contractions, so I got my epidural then to ward off the real pain, lol! Unfortunately, the insertion of the epidural was extremely painful this time around. I'm not sure why, but I was in tears and nearly hyperventilating by the time it was placed. With ODS, I barely even felt them put it in, so that was new to me. Shortly after my epidural, my doctor came in to break my water. I was so sure we'd have a baby in our arms by 6 pm at the latest... hahahaha.

Just before 7 pm I was fully dilated. The doctor came in and I started pushing. My epidural wasn't as effective as I'd hoped it would be, but that allowed me to do some amazing pushing. And more pushing. And then more. At 8 pm my doctor recommended we take a 15 minute break. I had been pushing so hard that I was simply exhausted and my pushes were becoming less effective. That 15 minutes was actually pretty horrible, since I still had a very intense need to push but couldn't since no one was in there. The doctor came back in and we pushed for another hour and half. My sweet baby just wouldn't descend. He stayed at a -2 station despite my best efforts. The doctor said I could continue to push or we could do a csection. I had spend the last half an hour crying because I knew nothing was happening and I didn't know why they weren't doing something to help get him out- forceps, vacuum, SOMETHING. So I chose the csection.

It took them an HOUR to get everything prepped. Easily the most painful hour of my life. I honestly have no idea how women survive natural childbirth! You ladies that do are AMAZING. I spent that hour crying, moaning, and banging my hand against the side rail of the hospital bed (which was to distract me from the need to push during contractions, I'm amazed I didn't have bruises all over my hand from doing that!).

The csection itself went beautifully, although I did throw up during it, and that pretty much sucked. The first thing I said in the recovery room to my husband was, "I bet you've never thrown up with your insides cut open," lol.

But... in the end we welcomed a BEAUTIFUL baby boy, Benjamin Nicholas, at 10:55pm on 2/6. He weighed 8 lbs 13 ozs and was 21 inches long. So far he's been the easiest baby ever. He pretty much never cries, sleeps beautifully, nurses wonderfully, just awesome. His big brother is so in love with him too. I think we've got a keeper :smileywink:

Congrats! I hate that it sounded like a difficult delivery but I'm so glad he's being an angel after arriving.
