Bartholin's Gland Cyst or Just a Pimple?

I've seen a few posts regarding pimples on the labia (which I have had in the past so any of you out there wondering about this be assured, it does happen) but I have one on the labia now that I'M wondering about.

It started out sore and red like the pimples always do. However it never did open and emit pus as the others have. The soreness went away and therefore I thought the pimple had just gone away. However, after urinating yesterday and wiping, I noticed blood on the tissue. Being 50 and on HRT I thought "Great, I'm having vaginal bleeding" but after wiping again I noticed the bleeding was coming from outside the vagina. I checked that area where the pimple had been and sure enough that's what was bleeding. I pushed around on that area and got more blood, even felt a sac-like area that seemed I could feel blood coming from. This is on the right labia and I can't tell if it's on the inner or outer wall. I've been reading about Bartholin's Cysts (the Bartholin gland is located in that area and can sometimes get blocked and will abcess) so i was wondering if that's what's going on this time instead of a pimple. I do alot of sitting at the computer and I am overweight which tends to put pressure in that area while sitting. When I squeeze the labia between my fingers I can feel a lump-like area in the skin. It's still draining some blood. Has anyone else had something like this or are there any suggestions as to what I should do? Just went to my family doctor this past Friday for another reason and, of course, this didn't start bleeding until AFTER I'd seen him or I would have mentioned it!! Thanks for any response!

Hi there. I don't know if it could just be a pimple or not. I would definitly check in with a doctor just to be sure! :-) Sorry I can't give you a better answer. Hopefully someone on the board will have some more answers! :-)

It's really hard to say what it is exactly.  The Bartholin Gland is located on either side of the vaginal opening.  It could very well be what you are dealing with.  Here's some more info:

Unfortunately, only your doctor will know.  If it doesn't get better soon, at least your doctor call and see what they say.

Take care,

Kristin
