If you are new to diabetes or new to counting carbs, your dr or nutrionist should tell you what is best for you. But sometimes there is a lag between diagnosis and getting in for that 'education'. In that case here is a general rule of thumb to help you.

Women should eat, 30 grams of carbs for breakfast, 45 grams of carbs for lunch, and 45 grams of carbs for supper.

Men should eat, 60 grams of carbs for breakfast, 75 grams of carbs for lunch and 90 grams of carbs for supper.

Unlike with calories you can't save up your carbs for a 'big' meal later. And as in many things, this is just a general rule of thumb and what works for each of us may vary.
