How to brighten up your Bed Rest

Let's face it... when most of us are on bed rest, we kinda just feel like a bum. It sucks to be stuck tp a sofa/bed/chair all day and all night long. Short breaks to go to the bathroom or get a quick snack are just about the most exciting part of my day. ;-) However, there are ways to make it more interesting.

Invite a friend over. You may not be able to wait on them, but if they really want to see you, they won't mind. Sometimes it is nice to not feel so isolated and alone.

Play sitting down games with your kids. Mine really like "I Spy" and "Simon Says." We get pretty creative with those as well as artwork and craft time, puzzles and making our own home videos.

Get LOTS of library books and read them all! I have read so many books lately I feel like a sponge full of knowledge. Lol And if you have older kids already, they will really enjoy all the extra snuggle/reading time.

Catch up on all your favorite tv shows through HULU or watch some great new movies. You don't even have to leave home with services like Netflix and Unbox.

Get all caught up on your letters, emails, and phone calls. It might be a good time to write up any thank you cards you have been meaning to send too.

Consider taking an online course that you are intersested in. ( I will be taking a business management class soon through WGU and I am really excited!) You won't even have to leave the sofa for this.

Subscribe to American Baby and Baby Talk magazines. They are free for the first year and it sure is nice to read all those baby articles before your little bundle of joy arrives!

Make an online baby registry. Target, Wal Mart, and Babies R Us all have online registry systems. It is fun to be able to pick out things for baby even when you cannot get to the store!

Read birth stories online or write your own birth plan for the hospital or birthing center. You can never be too prepared!

Look for baby names if you don't already have one.

Do some journaling. It is nice to look back at the end of your pregnancy and have all those experiences and emptions on paper. You can add it to your baby book when you get a chance.

Start your baby book! Add ultrasound photos, pics of you and your family, and tummy shots. :-)

Any kind of scrapbooking is great right now. Think about all the extra sit-down time that you have! Ha ha

Give yourself a mani, pedi, or a facial. Try out some new makeup or hairstyles. You don't have to look blah just cause you feel blah!

For all of you ladies "suffering" through bed rest, remember it does not have to be miserable. You are changing your lifestyle for the best possible reason. Hope you get through it with patience and grace.... I lost mine and I am still looking for it. Lol. Maybe you will be more succesful than me. Good luck!!!

Thanks Mandie! I am on bed rest starting.... NOW! Today was my first day to be able to wake up and not have to worry about getting to work, getting ready, etc. It is such a relief. However, I know I will soon start to get cabin fever. My sister-in-law and niece are planning on stopping by at least once a week, and my mom will be keeping me company too since she doesn't work and she's recovering from neck surgery.

I will definitely be trying out some of those ideas! Also, I am planning on making the babies blankets for their cribs, home-made mobiles that I found on pinterist, and painting pictures for their room! (I am kind of artsy) :smileywink:

Fortunately for me, my husband works 6-2 and usually gets home around 2:30, so it's not such a long day alone. I also have my lazy dogs to keep me company, and they have always been good at that!

I know that resting is for the best possible reason, to stuff my face and gain weight and relax so that my babies grow as much as possible!

I found keeping a schedule for myself also made the days more bearable. And although I wasn't moving, I felt like I was being productive by having set times to get up, go to sleep, nap, eat etc.

Yes, great ideas Mandie!  By the way Taryn, hand in there girl!  It's great you're gonna get some rest now because carrying quads is a big job!  Hope you can eat all the foods to saitsfy what you and the babies are craving and you continue to enjoy yourself at home :smileyhappy:  I know it will be tough at times, but once that babies come it will be a distant memory....
