For whom should the flag be lowered?

I read this story in my Twitter feed over the weekend:  http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/U/US_WHITNEY_HOUSTON_FLAG_BURNING

A father whose son died while serving in the military burned a replica of New Jersey's state flag to protest the lowering of the flag for Whitney Houston.  The man thinks the flag should only be lowered for those who have given their lives in service to the United States.

In my town, I've seen the flag lowered for local heroes (firefighters, police, etc.) and military veterans.  I thought I'd seen it lowered for civilians, but now that I think about it, I think those civilians had served in the military at one time.

Do you think the flag should be lowered for celebrities?

I honestly don't think it should be lowered for celebrities. I think it kind of does a disservice to those men and women who have died in battle.

I think it should not be lowered for celebrities...

I was thinking that how many famous people from New Jersey died (celebrities, etc) and didn't get their flags lowered, and they were a far greater person than Whitney Houston.  It shouldn't be a decision that can be made from one governor to the next either.

The only reason a flag should be lowered for a celebrity if there is another reason, ie former military, police officer, firefighter, etc.
ITA it shouldn't be left from one governer to the next.
