Q about travel at 29 wks w/ twins

My sister is getting married at the end of May and I will be 29 weeks PG with twins. I am a bridesmaid, my DD is the flower girl and DH is a groomsman. The wedding is a 9 hour drive away. We would be able to break that in half and stay overnight halfway there w/ frequent stops. There is a town an hour away from the wedding site that has a level III NICU, so that is good.

What do you think my chances are of gettting to go?

Me (32) DH (32). I have blocked tubes/hydrosalpinx due to adhesions from 3 previous intestinal surgeries in my early 20s for Crohn's Disease. Crohn's currently in remission! IVF #1, 6/24/09 retrieved 13 eggs, 6 fertilized, transfered 3 embryos on day 3, one 5-cell, one 6-cell w/ fragmentation, one 8-cell "textbook quality". None to freeze. + HPT 10DP3DT, Beta #1 11DP3DT was 194, Beta #2 13DP3DT was 387. 1 fetus and 1 empty sac found at 6 week U/S. DD born 3/12/10! ~IVF #2~ 20 eggs on 5/30/11, 14 mature, 8 fertilized. Transfered 2, 5-day blasts on 6/4/11. None to freeze. +HPT 5DP5DT Betas: 105, 172, 211, 182. Waiting to m/c naturally. RE says poor eqq quality...~IVF #3~ 10 eggs on 11/19/11, only 4 mature but all 4 fertilized. 11/24/11 transfered 2 "beautiful" blasts on day 5 (Thanksgiving Day), 1 to freeze, yay! Beta #1 8dp5dt: 150, Beta #2 11dp5dt: 513. U/S 12/27 7 wks/3 days and TWO BEAUTIFUL heartbeats!!

I was told no air travel past the 20 week point.. because of mandatory bedrest.  ...but no mention of driving, especially with frequent stops.. hmm.. good question.

Have you talked to your Dr about it?  Might be good to give them a call and see what they say.

IMO It might be too close to your delivery date.  Most twins are born earlier and you dont want to risk being so far away from home or in the middle of nowhere if you start having contractions, etc.  Not sure end of May will work for you.  Again though, ask your Dr and see what they say.

Grats to your Sister :smileyhappy:

If the Doc says no, too close... maybe your sister could bump up the date a little or postpone til after?  Is everything booked and ready to go?

I am wondering about this too, because I am supposed to present a paper at a conference when I am 28 weeks. It would be a 2-hour plane ride to get there. I'm going to talk to my OB about it tomorrow at my  first appointment (just graduated from the RE's office!).

I was told no travel over an hour away after 28 weeks. I had zero complications and went past 38 weeks but that was the rule. The reason was if I went into labor and wound up delivering along the way not only would I be away from my doctor but then what? The babies would be in a random NICU along the route and I'd be stuck trying to figure out how to stay close to them.

I don't mean to be a downer but there is a very good chance your OB will say no way. I want you to be prepared to hear possible bad news. Good luck!

So, not to add to the bad news, but my guess is it's a no. And as a "worst case scenario", I was a bridesmaid in a good friend's wedding that was thankfully here in town. Rehearsal dinner Thursday night, water broke Friday morning, babies arrived Saturday morning just a few hours before her ceremony. I was 29w6d. Really glad the wedding was in town and I was at my house with my doctor and my hospital. My babies spent 7 weeks in the NICU and I can't imagine if we'd been stuck hours from home.
