Libraries fight ACLU over online porn

Does your library allow adults to access porn online? Guess I'm niave, but I just assumed things like this were blocked in all public libraries! Maybe it's just cause we're a small town, but porn is blocked in the library here!

The American Civil Liberties Union is suing a Washington state library district for not offering access to online porn! http://usnews.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2012/02/03/10309475-aclu-sues-library-for-not-offering-online-porn

I used to work at my local library and porn was blocked as much as it could be. Some people still managed to view it (and print it!) and if they got caught their library privileges were revoked.

I just don't think it is appropriate to allow porn in libraries. Many times I was the one that had to go close the screens after someone had been viewing it. What if a child had come along right after someone had been browsing porn? Viewing porn should not be a public priviledge. If someone wants to look at porn, they need to pay for private access in their own homes.

I'm actually at the library right this minute and out of curiosity tried to see if I could access a porn site and I can! When you sign up to use a computer with internet access you're asked if you want to use an adult computer that has filtered or unfiltered internet access. I've always selected unfiltered so that I can access chat, message board, and social media programs that are blocked under the filtered setting. I had no idea I could also access porn lol. I frankly don't care that the libraries allow access to porn, but am really curious how anyone would actually enjoy it in such a public setting. Seriously the guy next to me is barely a foot over. That'd totally kill the mood for me lol.

Children's library cards don't even allow them the option of signing up to use an adult computer so their internet browsing on kid only computers is automatically filtered.
