Adele's Set Fire To The Rain video - shows cycle of abuse

Has anyone seen Adele's video for Set Fire To the Rain? I watched it and was really struck by the portrayal of an abusive relationship. It was a good representation of the cycle of abuse. The thing that hit me the most of the intensity of the sexual encounters as well as the overall intensity of the relationship. It seems weird and it didn't hit me until I saw it in the video, but my abusive relationship always feel like they have more "fire" or intensity to all parts - both good and bad, and sex was always a mechanism for control as well as another expression of that intensity (if that makes any sense at all). Here is the link (careful if you trigger easy - I freak out a little bit everytime I see it):http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dCLS_ztGOBk. I keep saying "intensity" but that seems like the most accurate word to describe. That overwhelming passion that encompasses the hatred and love you feel for that person - where it all just seems to be beyond any controlling.

Whew, Chipper, I hadn't seen that one.  For those of you who plan to watch this, be very, very aware that it is almost one huge trigger from beginning to end.  It is probably one of the toughest things I've ever watched.  But on the other hand, every dv agency/shelter in this world needs a copy of this video to share at their support groups, client intakes, whatever, wherever.

Like you said, chipper, it shows the intensity, the drama (which, IMO, some of us become addicted to), the whole gamut of the cycle of abuse.  A very, very powerful video that I hope will help many people see the cycle of abuse for what it is - a no win situation.  Thanks for sharing this with us.  I was so pleased to see Adele win so much at the Grammies.  She's an incredible talent.  Do you know if she's an abuse survivor herself?

I can't watch the video..the lyrics alone are hard to listen to. I love her, but she falls in the 'cry music' category. I tend to listen to pretty hard metal, since music affects me greatly. I wonder if she's an abuse survivor too..but the fact that her album was written from a bad relationship, I'm going to guess yes. How awesome it'd be if she spoke out about it, as we all know that DV has very little awareness.

Thanks to both of you for pointing out how hard it is to watch the video.

Just as an FYI, those scenes are actually from Eminem's video Love the Way You Lie.  But, you're right, they are intense.
