Ideas for at home [parental] speech help?
Hi! My 10yo has been learning/language and now communication disabled since before prek (but labeled/diagnosed in prek). Anyway, he gets speech in school. And he has improved tremendously over the years, but still has issues grasping some concepts (pragmatics are *the* worst with him).
I try to correct him at home and explain why something is the way it is. But some things you can't really correct/explain, it just is what it is (i.e., broke is not broked). He's got an issue with Who, What, Where, When & Why and time frame is super hard for him to grasp (he'll say, "Remember yesterday when we went to Hershey?" when yesterday really means last year).
Also, to help, we'll watch TV and I'll pause it during a scene and say, "Ok, why did Phineas just ask where Perry is?" or "What do you think Candace will do next?" to get him to elaborate and think about the speech.
Does anyone have any other suggestions on how to work in some speech help without it seeming like homework?
Thanks. ![]()

There is a program they use in my son's speech therapy that is songs that go along with pictures and words. It helps with wh- questions a lot. My son is only 4 but I"m sure they have things like that for older children.
Also, if you have a photo album maybe go through it and say, "Oh look, that's us at the beach. When did we go?" Or "Where was that picture taken?" Or choices like, "There you are at your soccer game. Was that last week or yesterday?"
