TTC: Questions & Issues
Is It My Period or Am I Pregnant?
My boyfriend and I had unprotected sex on January 1. January 5, I went to urinate at 2:25pm and after I clean myself, I saw light, pinkish blood on the toilet tissue. When I used the bathroom again around 4, there wasn't any blood and when I used the bathroom around 7:30pm, there was that light red/pinkish blood again. Today, I'm bleeding like its my period. Mild cramps, not too painful and not too light. Just in the middle. But, I'm not bleeding heavy.
My last period started on December 17 and lasted until December 20 so when I had sex, I was in my ovulating cycle and my period isn't due until January 17. Yes, it is possible for my body to change and my period would come on early but my menstrual cycle never really change. What could this be? I would be disappointed if I am not pregnant but we could always try again. We are expecting to move in together after I graduate undergrad in May and get marry when I complete my masters. Any ideas and advice would be helpful.

Did you only have unprotected sex once this month? January 1 was only 5 days ago. Implantation takes several days. It's HIGHLY unlikely you would show any sign of pregnancy yet. The egg might not even be implanted yet. Wait a week at least and then take a home pregnancy test. Even the best tests on the market say you should wait until the week your period is due.
I know you might hate the advice, but slow down. Move in together then have a baby. Do you really want to deal with morning sickness and pregnancy tiredness living on your own? Do you know how hard it is to drive yourself to your doctor's appointment when you can't stop pulling over to puke? Or how hard it is to go to a really important appointment, like an ultrasound or gestational diabetes results, and the only time you can fit the appointment in your class schedule is when you have to go alone? Having a man isn't necessary, but it sounds like you and your boyfriend are planning to get married. It would be easier to handle things if your relationship had taken that next step BEFORE you were pregnant. I'm not trying to preach, I'm sure you're old enough to make your own decision. And babies are awesome. But I've had 2 kids outside marriage while in school and it's HARD, harder than you can ever imagine, and I love them but I can't explain how tired and stressed I was. I gave up on my masters, took a job I hated with my bachelors, and finally now have the chance to do what I want (my oldest is almost 11!) You have a chance to live with and marry your man and raise a family together. If you really want to be pregnant immediately, I'd start those moving in together plans now.
